Revelation 20:1-3, Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.  He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished.  But after these things he must be released for a little while.

The devil is bound in the bottomless pit for a thousand years.  This time is called the Millennium; Jesus Christ is on the thrown, His kingdom is the earth, and it is a Christian kingdom.  During this time, the saints shall rule with Christ and shall be His priests as worship will be at the center of this time.  During this time there will be world peace, economic stability (Read Isaiah 35:1-2; Isaiah 65:20-23), and the role of animals will be changed (Read Isaiah 11:6-9).  You might look up the verses to understand about the animals.  It will be an exciting time!

Life as we know it will be changed during the Millennium.   You need to remember that there will be those who went through the seven years of tribulation that did not die because God hid them. These are those who gave their life to Jesus Christ during this time and were not martyred.  During the Millennium, they will continue to have children.  Those born during this time will still need to confess their sinful nature and accept Jesus Christ as Lord.  Isaiah 65:20-23 addresses this need.  The “child born during this time” will have one hundred years to profess Jesus Christ as their Savior; if they do not do so within this time they will die (Isaiah 65:20). 
At the end of the thousand years, Satan will be released from the pit (Revelation 20:7-10) to once again gather those who are alive that have not professed Jesus Christ as Savior for one last attempt to overthrow the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.  Fire from God in heaven is sent to devour them.  The devil and his followers are “thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone to be tormented day and night for ever and ever”.

When I read this in the book The Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey as a 26 year old teacher (I was given the book to read by a student), I gave my life to Christ and He changed me.  It has been quite the experience!  Are we living in times that are close to this thousand year period?  I don’t know.  I will say that the signs of the times would indicate that we are.  Don’t be a scoffer!  Search the Word of God for yourself.  The words of Dr. David Jeremiah have stayed with me for some time, “On any given day we are only seven years away from the return of Jesus Christ!”  Be sure of your relationship with Him.  The Bible tells us to examine ourselves by letting the Holy Spirit show us the areas of our life that do not line up with His desires for our walk with Him.  Then ask for forgiveness and stop doing what is not pleasing to Him.  It is His desire to help you be the person He desires you to be.

All I know is we are living in exciting times and I am watching and listening for the horn to blow and He takes His people out of this sinful world to be with Him for eternity!  What about you?
