LEARNING DAILY

Ephesians 6:12, For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

I know that assumptions are not good to make. As this is being written, I cannot help but think each reader has found themselves in some sort of conflict with someone and struggled to understand what caused it. The battles Believers face, the challenges in life that come along are not always physical or visible. The verse from Ephesians is a reminder that spiritual influences may be trying to disrupt relationships, trying to cause misunderstandings, trying to cause deception, and trying to cause discouragement. These forces are often the cause of temptation and attempts to cause one harm.

When Believers find themselves facing conflict(s) with someone, the “battle” may not be just a physical battle but a spiritual battle. If this is the situation, it is important to remember that you are not alone; spiritual battles require spiritual weapons. It is also important to remember that Believers are equipped to face these battles with faith, strength, and perseverance.

In the verses following, Paul reminds us that we are not to try to fight these battles on our own. Believers must rely on God’s strength and put on the spiritual armor God has given Believers to fight with. This includes the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of readiness given by the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.

To effectively fight spiritual battles, we must remember the truth that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil. This means that our battle is not merely a physical one, but a spiritual one that requires spiritual weapons. We need to rely on God’s strength and put on the armor of God, which includes the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of readiness given by the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. Prayer is a vital part of this spiritual battle as communication with God helps Believers to stay alert and to continue in the face of spiritual attacks. Paul also tells Believers to stand firm in their faith as they know God is with them.

Our life is full of challenges. Spiritual forces are working diligently to shake each Believer’s walk on the narrow way. Just like you need the various tools you have to complete the work you do, you, as a Believer, need the armor of God to stand strong when unseen forces try to disrupt your life. Stay watchful, stay alert by being in God’s Word and in prayer daily!

LEARNING DAILY

Daniel 6:16, Then the king gave orders, and Daniel was brought in and thrown into the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel, “Your God whom you continually serve will Himself rescue you.”

Daniel finds himself being thrown into a den with lions because he has defied the decree of the king by bowing down and praying. The king has been tricked into making a decree saying no one could make any petitions to a god or man except for him, the king. But Daniel is no weak-kneed Believer; he had moral determination and courage to continue his daily ritual of prayer with God. He is not fearful of being seen on his knees in prayer. He had no fear of a den of lions and would rather be in it with God than out of it without Him.

It is a set up by those who hated Daniel and his God. They watch him defying the decree and run to King Darius who must do what he decreed – despite his admiration for Daniel, Daniel is thrown in with the lions. Do you see the tension here? Earthly laws being made that cause conflict for those who have unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. Read again the statement by the king, “Your God whom you continually serve will Himself rescue you.” This is an ultimate test of Daniel’s faith.

Every faithful believer must understand that God is sovereign and omnipotent; His will is over every aspect of their life. His will takes precedence over everything and everyone. Psalm 18:30, “This God — His way is perfect; the Word of the Lord proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.” If God’s ways are perfect, then Believers can trust that whatever He does – whatever He allows – is also perfect. As a Believer, your responsibility is to obey Him, to trust Him, and to submit to His will. Romans 8:28 reminds us that whatever He has for you will be for your benefit and His glory. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” There was no bite mark, no scratch found on Daniel.

It is not difficult to draw parallels from what Daniel endured. Psalm 34:7, “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and delivers them.” God protects those who are devout to Him.1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Believers may not face physical lions like Daniel but there are spiritual enemies and adversaries who oppose Believers today. All Believers face challenges in the workplace where a biblical stance must be taken, fears, daily trials of all kinds, and the unknown. Daniel’s example of unwavering faith in God’s deliverance in the face of great danger must be an example for Believers to prioritize their relationship with the Lord above all else. It is at these times Believers need to stand strong in their faith – just like Daniel.

LEARNING DAILY

James 4:13-15, Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit" — yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that."

I wrote down a quote I read somewhere that said, “Overconfidence is often the result of prosperity.” Proverbs 27:1 tells us, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” This verse and the verse from James caution Believers to be careful about the attitude they have regarding the making of plans without taking God’s plans into consideration. “It is wrong to do things without God, and it is wrong to plan things without God” (David Jeremiah Study Bible). Before you scoff at this, consider the importance of being humble and grounded in the present moment. This is a reminder to every Believer not to become overly confident or prideful about the plans and goals for the future. It is best to remember and acknowledge human limitations and surrender to the wisdom of God in a world full of uncertainties and unforeseen circumstances.

Proverbs 20:18, “Plans are established by counsel; by wise guidance wage war.” There is nothing wrong with planning and setting goals. There is certainly much to be said in being diligent in doing so. Wisdom says to seek God’s will in doing this; seek wise counsel. Oh, how I wish I had followed that advice over some decisions we have made. It is a matter of recognizing everything is subject to God’s sovereignty. Making well thought-out choices after prayer will save one a headache or two later. I have learned that making plans without seeking God’s guidance not only arrogant but is assuming that our plans are completely within our control.

It is important to consider making plans with humility and to be willing to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. He does want to direct Believers steps, so they align with His plans and His purpose. That is a matter of trust in His wisdom and surrendering the Believer’s plans to Him.

"If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that." This is a statement of total surrender. It is accepting what He wants rather than boasting about tomorrow, as if one can somehow know the future. Be honest – only God knows what each day will hold for each of us. James is not saying do not make plans. He is saying to seek God’s will in making plans. He may want you to change direction, to adjust course. The apostle Paul traveled and made ministry plans, but his habit was to include God in them. Warren Wiersbe wrote “Paul did not consider the will of God a chain that shackled him; rather, it was a key that opened doors and set him free.” That is what Believers must do as they plan. Sensing that He desires a course adjustment should cause you to surrender and adjust the plans you are making to fit His will.

Knowing God’s will comes from a living and abiding relationship with the Lord. If you have read this blog for any length of time you know that relationship is built through spending time with Him in prayer, being in His Word, and being willing to obey Him unconditionally.

LEARNING DAILY

John 15:1-2, "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

Pastor Jonathon Moore is beginning a series where he uses a clip from the series The Chosen to introduce what his message is about. This week he selected Jesus’ analogy about the vine and the branches from John 15. This is given during the time He spent in the Upper Room with His disciples to explain what is about to happen and encourage them for the days ahead. Jesue told the disciples “They would always be together – even though He would not be with them physically” (JM). Pastor Moore emphasized that Believers may not always see or understand what God is doing in their lives, but they can know that He is always present with them.”

Pastor Moore said that verse 2 may seem difficult to understand, “every branch that does bear fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” God as the vinedresser prunes the branches that are not bearing fruit. Believers are the branches, Jesus is talking about and He wants believers to be bearing fruit. Pastor said that those branches that are not bearing fruit “need to be lifted up because they are laying on the ground.”  God, as the vine keeper is not going to cut off anyone or anything that is abiding in Jesus Christ; “He is going to lift up a Believer who needs to be useful (but laying on the ground) and connect him/her to other branches in the vineyard to produce again.” The enemy will lie to you, telling you if you are lying on the ground, you will no longer be useful to God” (JM).

Here is what the Word of God says about being lifted by God. Psalm 3:3, “But You, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.” Psalm 145:14, “The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down.” James 4:10, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” All Believers are branches and are to produce fruit.

Pastor gave three thoughts that he called “Branch facts”. “People see the Branches [Believers] before they see Jesus [the Vine].” If you would drive by a field where grapes are being grown, you would see the branches and produce; you would probably not be able to see the vine. Yet you would know the vine was there due to the produce seen. What do people see when they see you? “The fruit in your life is proof of your roots. Where your roots are is what you produce. Stay connected to Jesus.” (JM). Let people see the peace you have with Jesus when difficulty comes.

“Fruit follows Faithfulness.” John writes the words, “abide”, “Remain” (depending on the Bible version) in Christ repeatedly to emphasize that sanctification [growth as walk the narrow way] takes time. “Remain fruitful and stay faithful, stay connected to the Jesus; fruit does not come when you are not connected to the vine” (JM). He gave an example of 160 hours in a week – 1/3 of those hours is spent sleeping, 1/3 of those hours is spent doing what we do (working, school, etc.), the rest of the time is everything else we do. That rest of the time is the amount of time spent with God – for a great number of Christians that is 1 to 1 and ½ hours with God (church on Sunday). “That is not what God had in mind when He said remain, abide in Him. He wants to invade every area, every place, all Believers do so we produce fruit.

Lastly, “Every Branch that does not Produce Fruit, He Prunes.” “This is not punishment! It is cutting out the unhealthy ‘stuff’ in the believer’s life. It may not even be sinful, just the distractions and things that waste time. He prunes the branches to produce more fruit for Him” (JM).

What are people seeing in you?

LEARNING DAILY

2 Timothy 3:5, “Having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.”

Pastor Ed Newton talked about the difference between being around Jesus and belonging to Him by using the illustration told by Jesus in Matthew 25:1-13. In this illustration there were ten virgins, five were foolish because they did not have oil in their lamps and five were wise because they had oil in their lamps. He pointed out that all ten had the same lamps, but not the same light. What did He mean by this statement?

Pastor said, “All ten had the lamps; they were saying they knew God. But this was not about the peripheral; it was about a heart knowledge of Jesus Christ [being their Savior and Lord]. They all knew Scripture, but they did not know Jesus.” They did all the right things, they spoke ‘Christianese’. They had head knowledge that needed to be moved eighteen inches into their hearts.”

Five were ready; they had oil in their lamps. Five were not ready, they had no oil. The five who had oil were watching and ready for the return of Jesus; the other five failed to realize that the Bridegroom, Jesus, could come for His bride, the Church, at any time. Matthew 25:6, “But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom, come out to meet him’.” Believers, Jesus could return for His Church at any time. In this parable, Jesus saying a large portion of those who say they know Him are unprepared for that time. He will not wait until all of them are prepared. “Too many are consumed with what they are doing and not aware of how close the time for His return is. There are those who spend too much time trying to determine dates and hours of His coming and are not prepared for when He does. Our responsibility is not to determine when Jesus is coming, but to be ready when He does” (EN).

When the call was heard about the bridegroom, those who had no oil wanted to borrow from those who did. Those who had oil did not give any to those who did not have any. “They could not help because they had run out of time” (EN). “Our hope is not only that Jesus has saved us, but that He is coming for us” (Quote on the sermon note page). Because He has promised to return, Believers must be watching, staying in God’s Word, and praying – being and staying ready. Those who had no oil were “comfortable with life, doing the right things, good people, but had no relationship with Jesus Christ” (EN).

Quote on the Sermon Notes: “The difference between being around Jesus and belonging to Jesus is the oil – the Holy Spirit. Those without the oil “Had the appearance of godliness but denied its power.”  In other words, they were seen as good people, or as spiritual people, or as teachers, but they were not truly following God. They had religion but not a real relationship with Jesus Christ that was based on true faith and righteousness. This would also include those who choose when they want to obey God and when not to.

Those not having the oil went out to buy some. But when they were gone “those who were ready went in with him [the bridegroom] to the marriage feast, and the door was shut” (Matthew 25:10). “This is about getting into heaven!” (EN).  “There is coming a day when opportunity ends and eternity will begin.” (Quote on Sermon Notes)

Luke 12:40, “You too, be ready; because the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not think He will.” (New American Standard Bible)

Luke 12:35, “Be prepared, and keep your lamps lit.” (NASB)

LEARNING DAILY

Jeremiah 29:13, You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

As the people of Judah began their exile, the prophet Jeremiah was given a message to give to the people being taken to Babylon – the people would one day return to Him. God had warned the people through the prophets about their sinful living; judgment was here. It would not last forever. When He brought them back to their land, it would be for the purpose of fulfilling the plans He had for them (Jeremiah 29:11). God’s plan was to fulfill the unconditional promises He had made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Until that time, God was going to make sure they were not placing their confidence in their own efforts and righteousness. He wanted them to seek Him, to seek Him with all their heart. It is safe to say that God’s full plans for His people have not been realized yet.

This verse is the very heart of faith and the power of seeking God. It speaks to the idea that when one is diligent and sincere in seeking God, he/she will eventually find Him. Notice the importance of being passionate and genuine in their desire to have a “relationship” with Him – no matter where you are right now in your walk with God.

I found this quote from Reverand Michael Johnson; it speaks exactly to what I want to express in this page of the blog. “Seeking God with all our heart involves having a genuine desire and longing to know Him more intimately. It means yearning for a closer relationship with God and making Him the top priority in our lives. This pursuit requires dedicating our time, energy, and focus to seeking Him through prayer, studying His Word, and spending time in His presence.

Additionally, seeking God with all our heart involves approaching Him with sincerity and honesty. It requires coming before Him with humility, openness, and a willingness to surrender our will to His. We demonstrate our love and commitment to God by seeking Him with all our heart, acknowledging that we need Him above all else in our lives. May we continually seek after God with all our heart, knowing that He promises to be found by those who earnestly seek Him.”

There are so many demands on each of our lives each day – your work, your family, the gym. The demands go on and on, everyone seems to want your attention. Consider this: what if you would take the time to seek God with the same enthusiasm, the same dedication and intensity that you do with all these other demands upon you?

The promise is you will find Him.

LEARNING DAILY

Revelation 2:14-16, But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice sexual immorality. So also, you have some who hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Therefore repent. If not, I will come to you soon and war against them with the sword of my mouth.

God is serious about compromising His Word, your faith, with any other philosophy of man or philosophy of the world. Read then entire passage written to the church at Pergamum. Several things were causing people in this church to live contrary to the Word of God. The church existed on a stronghold of Satan. Verse 13 states Satan had his throne in Pergamum; this may have been the altar of Zeus where the people worshipped Zeus. The people also worshipped the Roman emperor, Dionysius – the god of wine and vegetation, Athena – the goddess of Athens, and Asklepios – the god of healing. False worship and worshipping Christ at the same time did not work.

Some people of the church followed those who taught it was okay to marry outside of the faith and worship idols (the doctrine of Baalam). Others (the Nicolaitans) taught there were no moral laws or restrictions for Believers; this teaching included sexual sins and idolatry. In this message to the church at Pergamum was to repent. If they did not, he would come quickly or suddenly and fight against the unrepentant members. God does not tolerate Believers who try to incorporate biblical teaching with corrupt doctrine or teaching and immoral living.

The world is teaching that it is okay to live anyway one wants to live. Children are being taught that immoral behavior is okay. Christian teachers are being fired when refusing to read books about gay and lesbian lifestyles; they are being fired for standing up for biblical teaching and truth. God is warning Believers today about compromise with the sinful practices being pushed upon them in every form of media, entertainment, and even in churches. Believers stay true to biblical values and beliefs. Temptations and distractions are being forced upon you, do not fall for the traps being set. Do not fall to justifying this or overlooking sinful behavior. Stay strong! Be in and stay in God’s Word! Be obedient to it! Repent when necessary; repentance is crucial – Jesus emphasized the need to acknowledge sin, seek forgiveness, and turn from it.

This is a letter of encouragement and guidance for Believers who were surrounded by the influences that were all around them. Believers must hold fast to Christ and His Word. Stay rooted in biblical values and faith when tempted. Seek God’s strength and direction in prayer when being pulled to follow wrong directions. Read and study God’s Word to gain an understanding of what He wants you to do, then apply it to your situation. Identify distractions that are trying to pull you away from biblical teaching and belief. It is so important for every Believer to prioritize your faith and leave everything behind that is trying to influence you to stray from the narrow way. The promise for doing so is eternal life, the approval given by the Lord Jesus Christ. To live with Him forever – what a celebration that will be!

LEARNING DAILY

2 Thessalonians 2:10 “And in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing, they perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.”

This blog emphasizes the need, the importance of reading/studying/meditating on the Word of God each day. Every Believer needs to know what God demands of them as they walk the narrow way; 2 Timothy 3:16 tells the importance of knowing Scripture. Knowing  God’s Word will help keep the one who is not only reading it but studying it and applying it to their lives from being deceived. Proverbs 14:12 is a warning, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end, it leads to death.” If you have not noticed deceptive ideas have become stronger and becoming normal in the world we live in. People are moving further away from the truth. I saw a headline yesterday that said only 30% of Christians read the Bible – I wonder how many of that group study and meditate on it. How can the Believer who does not read their Bible know the difference between truth and deception? The result is believing a lie and living in it.

George Orwell, the author of Animal Farm and 1984 wrote, “The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who spoke it.” Do not be deceived by what the world is saying, be careful of turning away from the truth! Turning away from the truth is a serious matter that can lead one away from the way God has intended. The Bible is clear about the dangers of straying from His Word, from choosing to ignore the guidance and direction it gives. There is a lot of confusion that come from those who say they have a word from the Lord – be in the Word to see what it says! Believer there are serious consequences that our choices can have on our spiritual lives. It can also lead those misled back to truth.

“I am telling you this so no one will deceive you with well-crafted arguments” Colossians 2:4 (NLT). “Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ” Colossians 2:8 (NLT). Paul was warning Colossian Believers to not be fooled by “well-crafted arguments”. There were those in Paul’s time who were trying to not just fool or trick Believers into deception, they were being outright dishonest and lying to deceive them. Their arguments were based on anti-Christian’s principles and doctrine.

Satan’s tactics have not changed since he deceived Eve. He comes with the question, “Did God really say ___?” “Did God really mean ___?” He has gotten people – even Believers – to believe they can do anything they want, live anyway they want, they can sin, sin, sin now that they are “saved”. Because the flesh is weak, because people want to indulge their own desires, they believe this deception and live the way they want to. That is not what the Word of God says.

I encourage you, Believer, to read/study/meditate on the Word of God each day. Love the truth and walk the narrow way in obedience. Do not allow “the god of this world” [Satan] to tell you there is no need to be in God’s Word.

LEARNING DAILY

Hebrews 1:8-9, But of the Son He says, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness beyond your companions."

Pastor Ed Newton’s message was too long to cover in one page of the blog. Remember he was talking about Jesus walking in joy and He wants all Believers to walk in that same joy. Here is the rest of what he said!

He addresses why Believers might not be walking in the joy only Jesus can give. First, our flesh – earthly ambitions, the desire for affirmation from others, and the drive to be accepted by others – can cause Believers to walk in the joy Jesus gives. Fear! “Fear causes us to do all we can to control these situations because we seem to think we can produce a better outcome than God. The believer’s flesh (self) is always at war with being led by the Holy Spirit” (EN). Pastor said, “What we want, we need is often at war with what God knows we need.” Pastor also said there was nothing wrong with ambition, seeking affirmation, and desire to be accepted; however, one cannot chase these things instead of honoring God.

“There is nothing wrong in having ‘stuff’. Joy is not having stuff, accolades, success, or even striving for this. But joy is not found in these things. Joy is knowing one can have stuff but will not lose their joy when these things are gone” (EN). Here is what Pastor said to remember. You cannot allow the flesh to win. Each day you must get up, “die to self, pick up your cross, and follow Jesus” (Matthew 16:24), put on the armor of God, set your mind on walking and following God.

Walking with God on the narrow way produces visible fruit. Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” The second fruit is highlighted so you would catch the fruit of joy! “Fruit is not the product of anyone working on attaining it. It is the result of walking with Jesus. The closer you walk with Him [on the narrow way in obedience], the more you talk with Him [prayer], and the more time you spend with Him [reading/studying/meditating on His Word], the greater one’s joy becomes [along with the rest of the fruit]” (EN).

As Believers are faithful – being on time, being joyful when things are not going so well, being joyful when all things are lost – others who are watching see and may want what you have. God gives His favor, often placing them in areas where only He can use them to fulfill His plan.

It is up to the Believer to pursue God. Believers need more passion for Jesus! John 15:1-5 tells Believers to “abide in Him.” I really like what Pastor said here. “Are you only in the Word of God on Sunday when in church? Do you only eat once per week? Being in God’s Word is about feeding on the Bread of Life every day.” John 15:9-10 tell Believers that keeping God’s commandments will keep them abiding in His love. “People who say they love Jesus but do not love His Word; it is because it confronts their lifestyle” (EN). I will let you consider that statement.

Pursing God aligns Believers by telling them when their life needs to get back on the narrow way with Him, to live the life He wants them to live. The Holy Spirit may want you to go in a different direction than you are presently heading. Listen to His leading; be obedient!

The takeaway statement on the sermon notes is good to end on today. The world produces madness, the Flesh produces madness, but the Spirit of God produces Gladness.

Pastor Ed Newton reminded us this weekend that happiness is the pursuit of stuff and depends on one’s circumstances. Joy is dependence on a concrete anchor, on something that does not change. “That anchor is Jesus because Jesus never changes” (EN). He said, “How you view Jesus is how you engage with Him.” Take a moment to really consider that statement. Be careful not to think that Jesus is mad at you for your behavior. He does not want to punish you whenever you make a mistake or walk too close to the edge of the narrow way, or even when you try to live with one foot off the narrow way. He is not disgusted at you. Instead, He offers you His hand to pick you up and set you back on the narrow way – just like He offered a sinking Peter when Peter got out of that boat (Pastor’s illustration). Consider walking with Jesus knowing He loves you more than you know and he watches over you with a smile on His face.

The statement in Hebrews states Jesus was anointed with the “oil of gladness.” Believers need to stop listening to what others say about them or allowing social media to tell them how they should live or what they should think about themselves and listen to or read (God’s Word) about what God says about them. “Psalm 139 tells Believers they are fearfully and wonderfully made; God made their inward parts. Stop comparing yourself to others – nothing can separate you from the love of God” (EN).

When walking on this earth Jesus ate and drank with people (Matthew 9:15); “He loved hanging out with people and having fun” (EN). One of the things I love about the series, The Chosen” is the portrayal of Jesus enjoying being around people. It portrays Jesus having fun and I laugh at the comments made by Jesus in the series. Children enjoyed being around Him. As Pastor Newton said, “You cannot fool a child. Jesus is joy! He wants Believers to have His joy!” Pastor Newton explained that Jesus could walk with joy because He knew His death would not be the end of the story for those who would believe in Him. He knew exactly what was going to happen – the cross, burial, and resurrection. That meant Believers could walk with joy because they can trust Jesus Christ with their future. The problem for Believers is we want to know what is going to happen today, tomorrow and next week. When Believers believe God holds the future and Romans 8:28, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose,” they also can walk in joy. Believers can walk in joy because Jesus will help them “endure whatever they are facing so they will be able to enjoy the next season of joy with Him” (EN). Jude 1:24, “Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy.”  Psalm 16:11, “You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

Knowing and believing this will change the way you face each day!

LEARNING DAILY

Psalm 119;130-135, The teaching of Your Word gives light, so even the simple can understand. I pant with expectation, longing for Your Commands. Come and show me Your Mercy, as You do for all who love Your Name. Guide my steps by Your Word, so I will not be overcome by evil. Ransom me from the oppression of evil people; then I can obey Your Commandments. Look upon me with love; teach me Your Decrees. (NLT)

I love God’s word! I have been reading/studying/meditating on it for almost fifty years. It does not get old. It is not boring. It speaks something fresh every day! Why write this? The answer is quite simple. The devotion I read today from Pastor Ed Newton was what I have been trying to encourage readers of this blog to do – read/study/meditate on the Word of God each day. He gave his permission to use what he wrote in today’s blog. I am going to reproduce what He wrote because it cannot be improved.

“People return to it [the Bible] year after year and still find something new speaking into their lives. That can feel surprising, especially if you assume familiarity should lead to boredom. Scripture works differently because it meets you where you are, not where you used to be.

“Each session of life brings different questions. What you needed to hear years ago is not always what you need today. God knows that. When you return to His Word, He highlights the truth that fits your current moment. A verse you skimmed in the past in the past suddenly feels personal. A passage you once ignored speaks directly to a decision you are facing. The words did not change, but you did. God uses the same truth to bring fresh guidance.

This is why Scripture never feels finished. You grow, struggle, heal, and mature, and the Word of God continues to meet you along the way. In seasons of joy, it grounds you. In seasons of confusion, it steadies you. In seasons of pain, it comforts you. God is not repeating Himself out of habit. He is speaking with precision, applying eternal truth to present circumstances.

Some people stop opening the Bible because they think they already know it. Others approach it only when they feel desperate. Both miss the invitation God is offering. Scripture is not just for emergencies or beginners. It is an ongoing relationship. God uses His Word to shape your thinking, refine your desires, and guide your steps one day at a time. Returning often is not a lack of growth. It is a sign of it.

If the Bible has started to feel distant or familiar in a dull way, consider returning with new expectations. Ask God to show you what you need. Read slowly. Trust that He knows how to speak into this season of your life. The Bible is a book that you finish because God is not finished shaping you. Each return is an opportunity to hear His voice again, fresh and timely for where you are today.”

I pray that you are as encouraged as I was when I read this. It is encouragement to me to continue reading/studying/meditating on the Word of God each day. Every believer needs to do this daily!

Thank you, Pastor Newton, for allowing me to pass this on to those who read this blog.

LEARNING DAILY

Psalm 119:123-127, My eyes fail from seeking Your salvation and Your righteous Word. Deal with Your servant according to Your mercy and teach me Your statutes. I am Your servant; give me understanding that I may know Your testimonies [statutes, laws, decrees]. It is time for You to act, O Lord, for they have regarded Your law as void. Therefore, I love Your commandments more than gold, yes, than fine gold!

I am going to make a few more comments today about yesterday’s blog.

“My eyes fail from seeking Your salvation and Your righteous Word.” I might be wrong, but it seems to me that Believers are eagerly waiting God’s deliverance in their hearts. The psalmist longed for the salvation of God; he must have spent time in God’s Word. He did not have the New Testament to read and study; if he did, he may have been longing for the return of Jesus as the conquering King, coming to establish His kingdom on earth. The world he lived in was a difficult time just as the world is evil and difficult today. As a Believer are you diligently living as Jesus wants you to and watching for His return? Do you “love God’s commands more than gold,” as the psalmist proclaims? Is your plea that of the psalmist when he states, “give me understanding that I may know Your testimonies?”

“It is time for You to act, O Lord, for they have regarded Your law as void.” The world Believers live in today is marked by injustice and moral relativism. Moral relativism is the philosophical view that moral ideas of what is right and wrong is a matter of individual ideas. That pretty much describes the world Believers live in today. Those who have decided that biblical truth is no longer absolute have decided they can decide for themselves what is right and wrong, good and evil. In my household, we are discussing which political candidates to vote for; we have decided that President Trump is endorsing all of them according to their advertisements. Who is telling the truth? He cannot be endorsing them all!

To many, the Bible is an outdated book, no longer applying to the world Believers live in. Those who believe that are destined to find out they are wrong! Believers are to stand firm in and on God’s truth serving as a light of truth and righteousness! Stand strong against every wrong idea that tries to get them to deviate from the commands of God’s Word! The words of Psalm 119:121-128 are timeless truths that Believers must hold on to today. They call Believers to live lives grounded in righteousness, justice, and a deep love for God’s Word. Be encouraged and challenged to prioritize God’s commandments above all else. When you do and hold on to God’s Word and seek to live according to His will your life will reflect the wisdom, righteousness, and the goodness you have embraced and held tightly to!

The psalmist is asking, almost pleading for justice as a response from God for an unknown wrong or evil. He is also asking for a deeper understanding of God’s Word. In verses 121-128, the psalmist is asking God to make good on His promises.  The Word of God tells Believers to stand firm in their faith when facing opposition of any kind; there certainly is comfort and strength in His Word. Don Adkisson wrote in his notes on this Psalm that “one can be overtaken with weariness when in a battle. We need God’s blessing and mercy is the first blessing; a deeper sense of His mercy will bind us more strongly to His statutes. The psalmist requests understanding and the need to properly apply God’s Word because he [the Psalmist] lived in a day when it [God’s Word] was disregarded.”

That could be said of the world Believers live in today – the Word has been disregarded! DA’s note continued, “People have made void God’s law in their daily lives; it has been replaced with something else. When sin becomes fashionable, a holy walk is regarded as contemptible.” Like those of many generations before, people today desire to walk on the broad way that leads to destruction rather than on the narrow way that leads to eternal life in God’s kingdom.

There is great spiritual wisdom for Believers today in these verses that show the beauty and power of God’s Word. The Psalmist should be an example to those reading this Psalm to affirm (or commit) to living their lives on the narrow way, by being obedient to God’s Word.

Reading and studying the Word should prompt the reader to reflect on their thoughts, words spoken, and action to be sure they align with God’s standards of righteousness. The psalmist’s plea for God to guarantee or confirm his welfare reflects and acknowledges his dependence on God’s provision. Believers today must also rely on the Holy Spirit to guide and teach them, to defend them when facing opposition. What a great reminder that God cares for each of us. Believers are called to live their lives grounded in righteousness, justice, and a deep love for God’s Word. Each Believer should be praying for the Holy Spirit to guide, protect, and intervene in the circumstance being faced each day. May each Believer be challenged to prioritize God’s commandments found in His Word above all else in order that it helps establish daily priorities and actions in accordance with His perfect will.

LEARNING DAILY

Romans 15:1-2, We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not just please ourselves. We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. (NLT)

“Using the Word of God for the basis for your decision-making will change your life,” said Pastor Jonathon Moore. He has been discussing the decisions we make each day in his sermons for the past few Sundays at NorthRock Church. This past weekend he talked about the decision to influence others through the gifts, talents, and opportunities God gives Believers to serve and influence others for Christ (taken from the booklet that relates to the series).

“We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord” (NLT). “The gifts God has given each Believer are not just for you; they are for serving others” (JM). Think of serving as a way to help others, to make others better and in the process show Christ’s love to those you help. Pastor shared three thoughts about helping others.

“You have a strength and it is for service.” I should not have to tell you that you are different from every other person. “You are unique, unique because you have a unique assignment (or burden). It is what you enjoy and are good at. That strength is God’s gift to you; what you do with it is your gift to God” (JM). God wants you to use what He has given you to help those in need – they are not given to you for your status or to serve yourself. Pastor said, “Your gift is not your identity; it is what you do. Connect your gift to helping others.”

“Service sanctifies (sets you apart for the kingdom of God) your strength.” Mark 10:42-45, “And Jesus called them to him and said to them, "You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all.” There it is – Jesus expects Believers to not lord it over others but to help them, lift them, and encourage them. Pastor Moore defined worldly leadership as “whatever I need to do, whoever I need to crawl over to get the position and status I want.” He defined Kingdom leadership as “getting low so others can be lifted up.”

“Regardless of your title, pick up a towel.” Jesus demonstrated what Pastor Moore was talking about when He washed the feet of His disciples in the Upper Room. This task was always left to the lowest of servants. Are you, Believer, willing to do menial tasks to help others, to bless others? “Most of the time the strength God gives you is usually bigger than your current assignment [the opportunity to help another]. God wants to know if He can trust you with the small things before He gives you greater opportunities” (JM).

“God gives you the strength; it is your responsibility to connect with others to use it to serve” (JM). Where and how can you serve, help others?

Here are three qualities of those who help others: Gentleness (strength under control), Generosity (open hands, open heart), and Sacrificial Living (Daily Choices and Lasting Impact). These are taken from the booklet that relates to the series.

LEARNING DAILY

2 Corinthians 1:21-22, It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, and He has identified us as His own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything He has promised us. (NLT)

Pastor Ed Newton, Lead Pastor at Community Bible Church, continued his series on the importance of the Holy Spirit in each Believer. He said, “No one is ‘born again’ until the Holy Spirit has opened their heart to receive the message of salvation; salvation does not happen on its own.” Your salvation did not occur because you wanted it to; the Holy spirit created that desire in you to begin with. “God made each of us [Believers] new through the death of His Son on a cross, but I [your name] want to look more like Jesus each day” (EN). That is done through the work of the Holy Spirit in you. Jesus Christ gave this example as He was conceived by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:20) and set apart by God to be holy (Luke 1:35).

Jesus went to John the Baptist at age 30 to be baptized. When He came up out of the water, the Spirit of God, in the form of a dove, descended from heaven and rested on Jesus (John 1:32). “Jesus was baptized to restore what was broken in the Garden of Eden. Because Jesus had the Holy Spirit, Believers have the Holy Spirit” (EN). That is important because right after this, Jesus was “led” by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted (Luke 4:1). Believers need to understand when they are saved the Holy Spirit comes to live within them, to guide, lead and help them not only walk closer to Jesus but to guide and help them stand strong when temptations come. “Stand strong in the authority of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit” (EN). Jesus was showing how to do this.

Jesus was fully God even when He walked this earth. He was led into the wilderness. He spoke what God, the Father, told Him to speak (John 12:49-50). He said He could only do what He saw His Father do (John 5:19). He was totally God, totally man – but He chose to do what the Holy Spirit led Him to do. “He chose to operate in the power of the Holy Spirit to show every Believer how to operate in the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus ministered in the Spirit. He said that He was anointed to preach the “Good news” to the poor (Luke 4:18). It was by the power of the Holy Spirit that He cast out demons, and the kingdom of God came upon those who followed Him (Matthew 12:28) And the miracles He did was because of the Holy Spirit and His power (Acts 10:38). Because Jesus had the Holy Spirit, Believers have the Holy Spirit (EN) – that means “each Believer is equipped to do these same things” (EN).

The Holy Spirit also led Jesus to a cross; Jesus Christ chose to die on that cross. The Holy Spirit raised Him from the dead. For the Believer that means, “the Holy Spirit is leading you to die to self, pick up your cross, and follow Jesus. How can you do that? The same Holy Spirit that did that for Jesus lives with you (Romans 8:11), empowering you to walk out of and away from all sinful behavior and thoughts that have led you before” (EN). As a Believer, you have been empowered by the Holy Spirit to be witnesses for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus was fully God on earth. He showed us that He did not live independently from the Holy Spirit. Neither can you and I! (From the takeaway statement on the notes.)

The verses shown in () were taken from the sermon notes.

LEARNING DAILY

Roman 8:1, There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

That is the Good News – no, the best news ever! As a Believer, there is no condemnation. None. Zero. That should give comfort to every Believer. You have been saved from eternal separation from God. This is a powerful message about the Holy Spirit transforming the Believer’s life because of grace given by Jesus Christ. “For those who are in Christ Jesus” there is complete forgiveness and pardon from their past sins; they are seen as righteous. That also means their present and future sins are forgiven as well. As has been written before that does not give anyone a license to do whatever he/she wants. It means when a Believer falls or sins he/she can go to Him, ask for forgiveness, and know He is faithful to forgive (1John 1:9). This is a matter of restoring fellowship with the Lord. “Through Jesus Christ the Believer has been set free from the law of sin and death” (verse 2).

This world we live in is full of life pressures (to be perfect), guilt, and shame; this is a message of hope and freedom. The pastors I listen to are constantly saying [Believers] are not defined by their past. Why? Because of their new identity in Jesus Christ. This passage (read down through verse 11) is an encouragement to live by the Holy Spirit’s leading, to walk a narrow way that leads to a life of peace and strength in Jesus Christ. He gives new purpose to your life as He changes your thoughts, attitudes, and lifestyle.

The New King James Version adds to verse one, “who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” This is walking the narrow way which shows evidence that one has been changed because of following the leading of the Holy Spirit. That means one who has been saved by Jesus Christ acts like it, talks like Him, and treats others as He wants you to. Living according to the Holy Spirit means setting one’s mind on the things of God instead of things of the flesh. It is doing everything possible to make sure thoughts, attitudes, and what is done aligns with guidance and principles of God’s Word. The Holy Spirit lives within each Believer to help them in this.

One caution. Do not try to live a godly life in your own strength. It is the power of the Holy Spirit living within you that transforms you from within. There were fleshly things that God took away from me when I was saved; there were other things that took years to give up. There is still “stuff” He is working on in me. It takes daily surrender of my will and to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Are you willing to be obedient to God’s Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit? The changes that happen when the Believer is willing to be obedient will bring you closer in your relationship to the Lord and you will experience the abundant life Jesus promised to those who walk with Him and according to the Holy Spirit.

LEARNING DAILY

Revelation 12:10-11, And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.

These verses focuse on those Believers who are on earth during the second half of the tribulation. All Believers overcome Satan by their testimony that Jesus Christ has saved them. 1 John 5:4-5, “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” I believe every Believer needs to understand what is happening every day in their life.

In Luke 10:18, Jesus said He saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning. In Revelation 12:10, John “heard a loud voice say the accuser of the brethren, who accuses them day and night before our God.” I will not claim to understand this, but Satan continues to have restricted access to heaven, to God, even though “he has fallen like lightning from heaven.” Satan accuses every Believer of their wrongdoing – the purity of heaven is not at risk! Again, I do not know if this is continual, or if he is there because God summons him. What I want you as a Believer to focus on is your ability to overcome all accusations of Satan, your enemy,“by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of your testimony.”

Romans 8:33-34 tells us that no one can bring a charge against God’s elect, Believers, because Christ is there as their High Priest, their Advocate, their defense lawyer, who intercedes for them. This is to give you tremendous hope in this world we live in where Satan, evil and injustice seem out of control. The struggles for Believers are very real and the way to overcome is knowing that the one who is continually accusing you, the one who is continually roaming to see who he can devour only has temporary power, he is ultimately going to be defeated.

Every Believer has a testimony. Others may be able to argue theology and doctrine; no one can argue with what Jesus Christ has done to save you and change you! A biblical testimony is your declaration of faith journey, your salvation and your walk on the narrow way. It is how you react to situations that come your way – both joyful and not so joyful. Your testimony deals with the lifechanging encounters with the Lord Jesus Christ. As a Believer, others are watching to see how you act, both spoken and unspoken, to each situation that comes your way.

One way to overcome the accusations of the enemy is to acknowledge the power of God and His salvation. Stand firm in His victory by recognizing Jesus has already defeated him and by that victory you, as a believer, are cleansed and have found favor with God. Also, know you have authority by your testimony. Declare the truth of God’s Word and His promises in the face of the enemy’s attempt to challenge and undermine your faith. And remember your identity is not who the accuser says you are; you are defined by your relationship with Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:1, “There is therefore no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”

LEARNING DAILY

Psalm 119:105, Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Reading/studying/meditating on God’s Word should be as important to every Believer as it was to the writer of this Psalm. Why? In Don Adkisson’s notes on Psalm 119 he wrote. “Knowing who God is shows us how to behave. The Word should be used personally, practically, and habitually. Let God’s Word be our guide – we must listen, pay attention to it because it is the light we need as we walk through this dark world.” That is sound advice and necessary for each Believer – daily!

“Your Word”. This is not man’s word but Yahweh’s Word (Psalm 119:57); verse 89 of this Psalm states “Your (God’s) Word is settled (unshakeable and stands strong) in heaven”. This Word is not some cosmic energy, or positive vibes, or karma, or something gotten from crystals. It is a real, personal God who communicates with His people through His written Word. Through His Word He gives direction when Believers are unsure of their next step, when they need hope, and clarity when there is confusion and/or doubt.

Pastor Ed Newton wrote in a devotional that this is about being obedient. “Obedience is never about having it all figured out; it is about trusting the One who does. He calls [Believers] to follow Him one step at a time” – that’s faith. “If [Believers]had it all figured out, faith would not be required. “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” This is about moving forward, one step at a time” (EN).

Each person reading this understands the need to have a source of light to see where you are going when walking or driving in the dark. God’s Word is that light when trying to deal with every uncertainty or trial that comes your way. Because the Believer has placed God’s Word in their heart, he/she faces each situation that comes with confidence and the assurance of God’s guidance by following the teachings and principles found in His Word.

The idea of making thousands of choices each day has been addressed in other pages of this blog. God’s Word will help you in distinguishing between right and wrong. The Believer gains timeless wisdom through being in God’s Word that becomes “light to your path”. It does help you move forward, one step at a time. Every Believer can walk in righteousness and in integrity as their steps align with God’s will. Doing so is the result of daily reading/studying/ meditating on the Word and then being obedient. Doing this is an invitation for God to lead you as you walk each day on the narrow way into His kingdom.

Do not wait for everything to make sense. Just follow the Lord’s guidance. Trust Him and experience the transforming power of God’s love in your life knowing He is with you every step of the way.

LEARNING DAILY

2 Peter 3:18, But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

The message given by Pastor Jim Piper at NorthRock Church concerned the decision to grow in walk with God. In the booklet that goes with this series there is this statement: “God’s design for your life is not stagnation – it is transformation.”  With that thought Pastor Jim Piper shared 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Piper emphasized anyone belonging to Christ is a new person. “Not a better version of yourself, a new person!” As a new person the Believer “has a change in allegiance; the old authority – guilt, shame, failure – in your life is gone. There is a new you” (JP).

The next step is to grow in the Lord. 2 Peter 3:18 tells us, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”

Piper said every Believer “must grow intentionally, must grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.” He explained that this walk with Christ is not self-centered; it is not self-directed. “You are no longer the boss.” Just before Jesus ascended into heaven, He told the disciples they would “receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them” (Acts 1:8). When you received Christ as your Savior, the Holy Spirit came to live in you. Do you realize the power that You have because of that? He came to be in you to give you direction, perspective, help you understand God’s Word, and so much more. Piper gave an illustration about your cell phone needing to be charged, the need to be powered. The Holy Spirit is that power for the Believer.

The problem for the Believer is being raised in a world where their flesh has led them and told them what to believe and how to behave. Do you see the problem when the Holy Spirit comes into their life and begins to show them God’s way, His direction. The flesh fights against it. Piper added that this growth in following the Holy Spirit comes when the believer makes the time to be alone with God in His word and in prayer. If Jesus made the time to withdraw to places where He could be alone with His Father, it is a great idea to follow His example.

I am going to finish this today with some thoughts from the booklet mentioned earlier. The question becomes making this idea of wanting to grow in the Lord personal. What can you do to grow in this discipleship? Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to this pattern of the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”  Here is the answer from the booklet. “Decide to saturate your mind with God’s Word. Decide to declare and speak God’s truth over your life. Decide to be aware of your thoughts and notice what is going on in your mind. Decide to challenge thoughts that do not align with God’s truth. Decide to replace negative thoughts with positive, biblical ones. Decide to surround yourself with people who encourage your growth.” The emphasis on these is mine because you alone, as a Believer, must decide for yourself what you do.

“Thoughts create feelings that drive decisions which lead to actions which determine your outcomes.” Something to consider from the booklet.

LEARNING DAILY

2 Chronicles 7:14, Then if my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. (NLT)

If there is ever a time for God’s people to humble themselves, pray, and seek God it is today. The times we are living in are interesting, to say the least. Pastor Ed Newton began his message today with this verse and made some statements about these times specifically what we are all seeing in Minnesota. His emphasis was on the God of heaven, Jehovah Jireh, El Elohim (Creator, Preserver, Mighty, and Strong), El Shaddai (God Almighty, All Sufficient), and Adonai (Lord or Master). His name is not Buddha, Allah, or Mohammad.  Our affiliation is not with a donkey or an elephant; it is with the Lamb of God, the Lion of Judah!

He then spoke on some principles for Believers (specifically Community Bible Church) should live by as found in God’s Word. First, he said, “All people – including the protestors and the ICE agents – are made in the image of God. All attempts to dehumanize, villainize, and demonize people comes straight from the pit of hell.” There have been many who would try to get their point of view across by trying to make the other side appear to be less than human.

Second, Pastor Newton stated, “When two people lose their lives, we cannot allow social media nor news outlets cause the loss of life to be manipulated unto a story that causes us to find ourselves holding our positions over those who weep and grieve. Families have lost loved ones who will not be sitting down at the table anymore. Whether you agree or disagree about what happened, we must recognize that life is precious in God’s eyes.”

Third, Pastor said, “Scripture commands that we must be respectful and prayerful of government entities and individuals who have been commissioned by officials from the national, state, and local levels. Whether you agree or not, God’s Word tells Believers to pray for them and to honor their role and responsibility – it does not negate accountability. No one is above the law! However, when we watch protesters who seek to break the law in trying to prevent those upholding the law, they cannot demand justice while causing injustice. There must be respect for law and order. Therefore, accountability for all people is a primary message of God’s Word. Nobody is above being held accountable.”

Fourth, “Not all migrants are terrorists, gangsters, murderers, pedophiles, and rapists; we cannot put all immigrants into these categories. This nation was built on immigration. This nation becomes better when people come here, seeking a better life. However, the laws of this nation must be respected.” (Acts 17:26 emphasizes God’s sovereignty over nations and their borders, suggesting His authority is involved in the establishment and protection of a nation’s borders.) This does not mean open border and allowing everyone to come across the border. Pastor suggested there is a lawful process, a proper way to come into this nation. It is not about keeping good people out; it is about keeping out those who would come here to do damage to our nation and hurt people. He suggested to ask ourselves why we live in gated communities, have a fence around our property, or have a ring doorbell at our front door.

Fifth, Pastor explained that Jesus was not an immigrant. He moved into Egypt and around Israel because the Roman Empire controlled the entire world. If Jesus had moved across borders illegally, He would have committed sin, which would have eliminated Him as Savior of the world.

Last, Pastor addressed sanctuary cities. Yes, “they are biblical, but in a different context. Biblically, they were an arrangement for one who accidentally took the life of another. They would go to a sanctuary city to be protected from that family member who wanted an “eye for an eye”. The person would go to the sanctuary city to guarantee the opportunity to go through the legal system to determine guilt or innocence. The sanctuary cities were not designed to harbor and protect criminals or those fleeing from the law.

Sorry for the length. I just wanted to share this perspective with you as you watch and listen to the news or read social media.
