LEARNING DAILY
Psalm 119:105, Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to
my path.
Reading/studying/meditating on God’s Word should be as
important to every Believer as it was to the writer of this Psalm. Why? In Don
Adkisson’s notes on Psalm 119 he wrote. “Knowing who God is shows us how to
behave. The Word should be used personally, practically, and habitually. Let
God’s Word be our guide – we must listen, pay attention to it because it is the
light we need as we walk through this dark world.” That is sound advice and
necessary for each Believer – daily!
“Your Word”. This is not man’s word but Yahweh’s Word
(Psalm 119:57); verse 89 of this Psalm states “Your (God’s) Word is
settled (unshakeable and stands strong) in heaven”. This Word is not
some cosmic energy, or positive vibes, or karma, or something gotten from
crystals. It is a real, personal God who communicates with His people through His
written Word. Through His Word He gives direction when Believers are unsure of
their next step, when they need hope, and clarity when there is confusion
and/or doubt.
Pastor Ed Newton wrote in a devotional that this is about
being obedient. “Obedience is never about having it all figured out; it is
about trusting the One who does. He calls [Believers] to follow Him one step at
a time” – that’s faith. “If [Believers]had it all figured out, faith would not
be required. “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” This
is about moving forward, one step at a time” (EN).
Each person reading this understands the need to have a
source of light to see where you are going when walking or driving in the dark.
God’s Word is that light when trying to deal with every uncertainty or trial
that comes your way. Because the Believer has placed God’s Word in their heart,
he/she faces each situation that comes with confidence and the assurance of God’s
guidance by following the teachings and principles found in His Word.
The idea of making thousands of choices each day has been
addressed in other pages of this blog. God’s Word will help you in
distinguishing between right and wrong. The Believer gains timeless wisdom through
being in God’s Word that becomes “light to your path”. It does help you
move forward, one step at a time. Every Believer can walk in righteousness and
in integrity as their steps align with God’s will. Doing so is the result of daily
reading/studying/ meditating on the Word and then being obedient. Doing this is
an invitation for God to lead you as you walk each day on the narrow way into
His kingdom.
Do not wait for everything to make sense. Just follow the
Lord’s guidance. Trust Him and experience the transforming power of God’s love
in your life knowing He is with you every step of the way.
