Revelation 21:1, Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
Some days I have a real strong concern for the unknown. Perhaps that is why I do not always like change; I do not know what it will bring. I think about the way “things” used to be and sometimes I would like to go back to those days. God gives us much to look forward to and He always prepares us for what is coming.
We have examined the rapture of God’s Church, the seven year period of time known as the Tribulation, the coming of the King of kings and Lord of lords with His army to defeat the devil and his armies, the thousand year period called the Millennium, and the two judgments. What is next?
The answer is all things are made new! Read what Dr. David Jeremiah writes about what John sees. “When John sees a New Jerusalem (v. 2) descending from heaven as well as a new earth, he reveals that believer’s final destiny is not heaven but earth, only this new earth will no longer be plagued by the powers of evil, sin, death, and Satan.” This is the transformed and redeemed world where Christ lives with His people and righteousness dwells. Permit me to give a summary of what has happened: to erase all sin, heaven and earth will be shaken (Haggai 2:6; Hebrews12:26-28), the stars will be dissolved and the elements destroyed (Isaiah 34:4; 2 Peter 3:7, 10, 12). The new earth will become the dwelling place for both humans and God (Revelation 21:2-3; 22:3-5). And, all the redeemed will possess bodies like Christ’s resurrection body. Think back to how He just appeared to the disciples in the Upper Room; He did not come through an open door. These bodies will be real, visible, but incorruptible and immortal (Romans 8:23; 1 Corinthians 15:51-54).
The sea being no more fascinated me. What does this mean? This is what I found. The sea for those living in biblical times was a threatening and fearful place that the Lord often had to calm. The sea represented evil and unrest and chaos. In Revelation 20:13, the sea was the home of the dead; in Revelation 13:1, the beast comes out of the sea. When John states that there will be no more sea in the new heaven and earth, he seems to be saying there will be no more cause for God’s people to fear – no chaos, no evil no death. No more sea is the first of seven evils that will not exist in God’s new creation.
There is so much to look forward to when one begins to really think about the time Believers will be in eternity with the Lord. Let’s take the next days to look at what it will be like.
