learning DAILY
We are home. On Wednesday
of last week, we went to Iowa for the funeral of Charlotte’s mother; it was a
celebration for her. It is always good
to be with family and friends that we don’t see often enough. We did do some driving – just under 3,000 miles
in five days. We did have an opportunity
to drive around where we grew up and share memories with our daughters. We spent time at the farm where Charlotte
grew up and Hampton where we went to school sharing some memories with
them. We also spent time looking at the
Camp Quaker Heights; we lived and worked there for five years. We got to see many improvements to the camp
since we left. We lived in Eldora, Iowa
for twelve years and saw the changes to the community. Like Hampton, the changes we saw reflected
movement of businesses out of the smaller towns.
The effects of the coronavirus were evident. There were some places open to eat inside
with social distancing. Other places, we
bought something to eat and ate in the truck.
In some places, the employees wore masks and in others no masks were
worn. Many businesses were still not
open. Of course, many of the people we
talked to had a variety of opinions about what has been done and what should be
done regarding this pandemic.
We spent much of our driving time listening to the news and listening
to the old radio programs. The news was
filled with the many views of current events and that got to be tiring. The old radio broadcasts of the 1940s and
1950s were fun to listen to. Programs
like Johnny Dollar, the Green Hornet and the comedy shows made the
long drive go more quickly.
Tomorrow the LEARNING DAILY will be back to normal, whatever that
means.
