Psalm 130:3-4, If You, Lord, mark iniquities, O Lord, who could
stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.
To understand fully the meaning of the last page of this blog,
Psalm 130:3-4 must be understood. In the
last page of the blog, David Jeremiah was quoted as saying when God forgives it
is as though the person’s sin(s) never existed.
In Psalm 130 the Psalmist asks the question about who could stand up to
God remembering their sin. The answer is
no one! If God remembered and kept track
of every wrong word spoken, every wrong action, and every wrong thought not one
person would be allowed in heaven. Not
one person could stand in the presence of a perfect, holy God because he will
not allow sinfulness in His presence.
I am so thankful for Jesus Christ dying on a cross in my place for
every sinful word spoken, thought and action I have committed. God does not mark, or makes nothing
of, iniquities
that are repented of. In this verse of
Scripture there is a very brief summary of the gospel – God hears His people’s
cries and answers with forgiveness. Too
many try to walk the line with one foot in Christian behavior and the other in
worldly behavior. It must never be
thought that one can go on sinning using forgiveness as a license to sin; the
Believer must do what he or she knows is the right thing. When I sin, and I do so every day, I ask for
forgiveness as quickly as possible!
There is another word in verses 5-8 of Psalm 130 that is important. The word hope in today’s thought process
carries the idea of wishful thinking.
However, in biblical thought, hope means more of a certainty. Hebrews 11:1 helps with this, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped
for, the evidence of things not seen.”
The psalmist put his hope in God’s Word and so must we. His Word states that He hears the cries of
His people and comes bringing forgiveness to those who earnestly seek
forgiveness. The hope of every Believer
comes from the promises in God’s Word.
With all the uncertainties we face, it is imperative that our
lives be in order. That must come from
seeking God and asking His f todayorgiveness for our sinfulness. I wish I had an answer to questions about
these days being the end times. Yes, I
believe the rapture of the church could come at any time – nothing is left to
be done before the king of kings and Lord of lords returns for His Church. It is imperative, in my opinion, that each of
us be ready and watching for His return.
I believe a major part of being ready is to have a repentant heart as He
is coming for a church without spot or wrinkle.
Take a few moments and ask for forgiveness. When you do, you can be sure He hears and
wants to forgive you and cleanse you from all unrighteousness.
