LEARNING DAILY

Matthew 6:10, “Your kingdom come.”  Jesus

When we pray, we pray not only That God be revered but we pray with concern for the kingdom of God on earth now and its ultimate fulfillment in the future.  When we pray God’s name be hallowed among men it is a reminder this is not the way it is among all men.  We see in the world today another kingdom at work – the kingdom of Satan.  This kingdom is marked by sin and darkness.  When we pray “Your kingdom come”, we are praying for Christ to return and for the establishment of His eternal kingdom in the new heaven and new earth.

Luke 17:21b tells us when we get saved the kingdom of God is withing you, “For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”  When we pray “Your kingdom come”, we are affirming that God is our King, He lives in our heart, and we want His kingdom principles and purposes to be lived out through us.  This includes asserting His power among His people in order to destroy the works of Satan, heal the sick, save the lost and promote God’s righteousness on His people.

In this petition there is also a kingdom to come!  The message of the Bible looks forward to the time Jesus Christ will return from heaven to defeat the kingdom of Satan and establish His eternal kingdom in the new heaven and new earth.  Events that are being played indicate to me that time may be very soon.  It might be very soon that the trumpet will sound and the Lord will descend and all who have placed their faith and trust in Jesus Christ will be raptured into His presence.  Immediately after that the gospel of Matthew describes a seven-year period of time known as the Tribulation.  At the conclusion of this time Jesus Christ will return from heaven with his saints and angels to set up His kingdom.  David Jeremiah had stated that at any given time, we are only seven years away from the return Jesus Christ.

The Lord Jesus is telling us that our petition or part of our prayer time should be a longing and a desire for the kingdom of God to come into every heart of every person.  It should be the desire of every Christian that the kingdom of heaven be expanded in their heart because it is how more worship and surrender occurs.  This leads us to pray for the success of the gospel in converting men and women.  It means that we should be longing in our hearts for the time when the Lord will come back again, when all that is opposed to Him will be cast into the lake of fire and the kingdoms of the world will have become the kingdom of God.

All this comes with a warning!  Are you ready?  If you pray this way, pray sincerely, get ready for war.  Remember there are two kingdoms.  The kingdom that is having its way right now does not want the kingdom that is coming to come.  Satan is running things right now; he has been given permission by God to do so for a time.  He may be on a leash, but it is a long one.  He does not want any of God’s people living in a godly way.  When you begin to live Matthew 6:33 for example he does not like it.  Matthew 6:33 says, “But, seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”  God will take care of you.

Look at the world today; it is a mess and certainly is not getting better.  People are not living for God and mock those who do.  Read the headlines.  The promise under a new administration is not good for God’s people.  The time to pray for God’s kingdom to come is now.  When you start living like the child of the king you will struggle.  But see the promise in Revelation 3:21, “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”

You and I, as Believers are called to walk in faith and in righteousness; we are not to be complacent in our walk.  This is so important right now.  We are to do the works of God, the works that honor Him.  As we live for Him, His promise is to share in His glory for eternity.  That makes the future exciting and worth the struggles on this earth!  I pray Your Kingdom come, Lord Jesus.  And may it come soon!
