I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit; Born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate; Was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into Hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven; And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I asked my new friend and brother in Christ the other day this question.  Why are teams like Kentucky, Kansas, Duke and Michigan State just average this year after dominating college basketball for so long?  He answered me by saying the shoe companies and others have stopped paying the elite players money to go to these colleges.  Assistant coaches are in prison for their role in paying the players.  He went on to say that cheating was not believed to be wrong so it was done.

 

What do you believe in?  It is said that what we believe determines how we live our lives.  If you believe that cheating is okay, you will cheat.  If you believe telling a lie is okay, your life will consist of telling lies.  If you believe there is no God, you will live according to your own standards because you believe you will not be held accountable.

 

The Apostle’s Creed is a statement of faith.  I have not attended a church in a long time who has the congregation say it in unison.  As I think about these things, I have not attended a church who repeats the Lord’s Prayer as a congregation.  Perhaps it is because we say them too quickly, without regard to what we are saying.  Let’s say these words together without considering what we are saying; that’s a wrong attitude! 

 

Here is what we are saying when we begin the Apostle’ Creed.  I believe that you are the God of all creation; You, God made the universe, this world, every plant, tree, animal, and each human being.  I am making a confession of faith that God, the Father, is the One True God.  Heaven and earth did just not happen – no Big Bang Theory!  No one-celled ameba found itself on the shore, saw the trees, decided to have legs and walked, evolving into man.  God made all these things and that makes Him God!  Do you believe it and do you live like it?

 

Isaiah 44:6, “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel, and His Redeemer, the Lord of hosts; I am the first and the Last; besides me there is no God.”
