LEARNING DAILY
Isaiah 55:8-9, “For
My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” Says the Lord. For
as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways,
and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Do you remember
the man and woman who had the cat who taught them about trust? The cat had
another interesting lesson for them. It
was to be 25 degrees for a low; that’s cold for where they live. I have been
told the cat has a habit of sleeping between their pillows at night and then
wanting to go outside anywhere from 2:00 to 6:00 each morning. The man and
woman decided on this night when it was to be so cold that they would not let
him out. The cat decided it was time to go out at 4:30 am. When the cat wants
out, he claws at the carpet so one of them is alerted that he wants out, doing
so until he gets his way. Being far more intelligent than the cat they ignored
him; they knew the temperature was too cold for him to be out.
I could not help
but relate this to God’s thoughts and ways being so much higher than ours. How
often have you and I thought our plan was better than what God had in mind? So,
we went ahead and did what we thought was a great plan only to find out we
should have done “it” the way God wanted. God’s thoughts and ways are not those
of the natural man. Time is nothing to God because He always was and also knows
what the future holds. Once one gives their life to follow Jesus, their
greatest desire should be to conform to His likeness so everything we do
pleases Him. This can only be done by renewing and transforming our hearts and
minds by seeking Him so our thoughts and ways conform to Him (see Romans
12:1-2).
I wonder if God seemingly
ignores us when we “scratch at the rug” to get His attention so we can have our
way. I believe He hears, just like the man and woman did when the cat wanted
out. He is just telling us it is too cold or not a good idea to let you have
your way right now. So, he does not say no; He just says I will let you out
when it is a better situation for you.
Oh, the man said
the cat eventually decided to get back on the bed. The cat flopped down with
his back almost in the man’s face, took a quick bath and went back to sleep. He
was content to be with those who knew what was best for him, trusting them.
Perhaps 2022 is the time to give your situation(s), your circumstances to the
One who loves you more than we can imagine. Go ahead and get as close as you
can to the One whose ways and thoughts are so much higher than yours and
desires nothing but the very best for you. We can be as content and comfortable
resting in the love of God as the cat was resting with the man and woman.
