LEARNING DAILY
Job 37:10, By the
breath of God ice is given, and the broad waters are frozen.
“Baby its cold
outside”! Bing Crosby sang the original song way back when and today it is more
than appropriate. I have to admit I needed to go to my concordance to find a
verse I could use this morning. It is not meant to be taken out of context or misused.
Just for the Bible scholars, this was said by one of Job’s friends who was
trying to explain God to him. In reality, I am not sure Elihu had much
knowledge of God. Anyway, today’s blog is a little different just because of
the cold weather we are experiencing.
We moved to Texas
so I could work in a large retail business. It was June and I was in the back
of an eighteen-wheeler helping unload merchandise when I saw electric blankets
coming through. Needless to say, I thought this was the funniest thing I had
seen and let everyone know electric blankets in Texas was dumb! It wasn’t until
about November when I stepped out of the house and shivered; the temperature was
in the low 70s. I guess the joke was on me.
Since that time,
we have experienced ice storms, a dusting of snow that has closed down the
city, a basketball game cancelled because it had begun to snow, last years snow
and cold that caused electrical plants not to work and now today’s cold.
Schools closed yesterday and businesses are not open because of rain and the
threat and strong possibility of ice on the roads. All this is a good thing
because no one knows how to drive on these kinds of roads.
Here is what I
know today. It is cold out and the forecast is for it to get colder. Cold is
cold, regardless where you live. For our family in Iowa, I know you have it
much colder there. Sorry! So, we stay in. I’m still struggling to convince
Ranger, the man and woman’s cat, to stay inside. I have tried and tried to
convince him that it is cold but he just does not want to listen. I believe I
have written a blog about his lack of listening.
By the way, there
are electric blankets on in our house. Some people need to have them on to warm
up the sheets in order to sleep. I guess I was wrong in making fun of my friends
way back then. Stay warm, get the fireplace going, grab the Good Book and know
that God warms the heart with His presence.
