John 18:38,
Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out
again to the Jews and said to them, “I find no fault in Him at all.”
The Lord Jesus
standing before Pilate testifying to the truth and pointing people to it. I
find it interesting that people are still asking that same question in March
2022. I find it interesting that there are ministers today that “compromise the
gospel and sound doctrine, mess up the clear meaning of Scripture and promote
their personal agenda at the expense of Biblical faith”. That is a quote from
the notes in the LSSB. This has been happening since Biblical times. These
people are leading people into deception, teach false doctrine, and are causing
people to be unable to distinguish between right and wrong.
That leads me
into today’s thought. I have written before about the problem of knowing who is
telling the truth to us and who is telling us lies or only part of the truth.
Again, this is not something just happening; it is an ongoing happening. But
today knowing truth seems to be different. Let me explain by asking if you have
thought about the amount of information that is thrown at us each day. There is
so much information given to us that it is impossible to sift through. There
are news channels that give us information 24 hours, 7 days per week. We can
get before a computer and look up information on any given topic at any time.
There are even newspapers still around that can be read. Oh, and we cannot
forget about the different social media that too many get their information
from.
Have you been
following how the different “news outlets” have stopped people they do not
agree with from sharing their opinions? Or, when such people are allowed to,
they are subject to ridicule. It seems that truth no longer matters and it has
been replaced by half-truths, propaganda, and open deception. Let me quote from
a book I have found; the title is The Final Fight for Freedom. I believe
it will open your eyes like it did me. It should also cause you to become
angry!
“But the core
reason for the lack of truth is really fairly simple. And also frightening.
Those who control the media see our nation, our culture, and our future in a
different way than most Americans do.
They think our nation is so deeply flawed, so racist, so unfair and
arrogant that it needs to be fundamentally rebuilt. They think that half of
Americans are rubes: backward, racist, homophobic, sexist, anti-science,
closed-minded religious zealots who are too dumb to know what’s good for them. So,
they have to tell us what is true and good. No not just tell us; they have to
jam it down our throats until we join them or cry out for mercy. (My
emphasis). And truth dies in the process of forcing us to convert to their
vision of America.”
Think back over
what has happened in this country in the last few years. Riots that are not
called riot. Statues taken down in the name of something. Deception about a
virus. Our country’s history being rewritten. Changes being made to school
curriculum. Divisions of all sorts. It goes on and on.
Jesus said, “I
am the way, the truth, the life, no one comes to the Father except
through Me.” (John 14:6). You and I can know truth; it is found in Jesus
Christ and in His Word. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 states, “All Scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be
complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” When we read and study
His Word, the Holy Spirit leads us to discern what is true and what is false.
Pay attention when you just do not think something is right. That’s the Holy
spirit nudging you to be alert, to be aware that something is wrong, that
something is not true.
We are in a
battle to know truth. Do not let anyone or any media outlet define it for you!
