 LEARNING DAILY

Matthew 6:19-21, “Do not lay up for yourself treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourself treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  Jesus

A lot has happened the last few months and weeks that have made me have to stop and consider what is really important in life. Time passes quickly and with the passing of time, changes happen. Our kids grow up and our grandkids grow up and that means we get older; all happens in what seems to be a “blink of an eye”. What I have been considering is the importance of time and how it can be wasted, or we can make the best of every opportunity presented to us. We need figure out what is truly important and concentrate on those opportunities.

As I reflect, I think about some of things I did, that I thought was so important; they really were not in the long scheme of things. I loved coaching! I loved the competition, the strategy, and matching wits against opposing coaches. I have to admit, I hated to lose. But my competitive spirit usually got me into trouble because I lost sight about more important things. After I became a Christian, I coached differently. I had missed something before – God did not really care who won. Don’t get me wrong, I still hated to lose. And at times my focus was lost in the competition.

Here is the point. We need to be sure we live our lives in a way that there is no regret when we look back. Spend the time with your family. Your time with your kids, your spouse, relatives, and friends can be the most important time you have. As everyone grows older, there is a tendency for everyone to go their own ways. The things you do now to make the memories that last forever will be treasured.

As I consider the verse above, I think all of us need to remember that the things we are involved with do not have to define who we are, I believe how we react to those things, our attitude toward what we are doing speaks very loudly. If I am a Christian, how I react to adversity can lay up treasures in heaven.  There are those who are watching to see if your actions line up with what you say you believe. Walking through adversity in a way that glorifies Jesus lays up treasures in heaven and all the trophies and awards here are nothing compared to what we receive for those treasures in heaven. It is easy to forget what is really important in life as we strive so hard to make a living and trying to move up the corporate ladder, run here and there due to activities and as we just get caught up in the moment of living.

I believe the Father would just want each of us to enjoy the moment we have with our family and friends. The time we invest with them is so important and we must never lose sight of that.
