LEARNING DAILY

Proverbs 4:5, Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.

Proverbs 4:13, Take hold of instruction, do not let her go; keep her, she is your life.

Proverbs 4:20-27, My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to your flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it springs issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth and put perverse lips far away from you. Let your eyes look straight ahead, and eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or to the left; remove your foot from evil.

Can you hear Solomon pleading with his son to gain and hold tight to wisdom and understanding? Can you hear the Lord telling you to grab onto wisdom and understanding of His wisdom found in the Word of God? By reading/studying the Word of God we get practical, moral and spiritual wisdom and guidance to living our lives. We must diligently seek it, find it, and make it the center of our daily lives. It is a daily quest – more important than anything else!

When we do it will guide us, stabilize us and even protect us from dangers unseen. We are to get wisdom; this is not the wisdom and knowledge taught by man, it is the wisdom of God which makes for a godly lifestyle, pleasing to Him.

Is it okay if I encourage you like Solomon encouraged his son (and any other listeners) to give your full attention to God’s Word. It is far too important to not give your full attention to, a dedicated time to focus only on it. It is far too important not to do so; in fact, I would say it is a matter of walking on the narrow way or not. It is your choice each day. We find time for so many things that we want to do; we find time to – you fill in the rest of the sentence.

I have found myself wondering where different thoughts come from. I do not seem able to control that. But I can control what I dwell on. Solomon’s instructions were to not allow his saying to depart from his son’s eyes. In other words, focus on God’s Words, keeping them continuously in his heart. We must also! There is certainly deception and temptation all around all the time. It never lets up. When thoughts enter our mind, we must consider them with the Word of God and get rid of those that do not measure up. That is the wisdom we are to gain. This is not a one-time thing; it is ongoing, continuous happening. We must continually evaluate and choose to dwell on what “is true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – mediate on these things” (Philippians 4:8). That’s beneficial and good teaching!

Righteous living is simply living our lives according to God’s Word. Living the way He demands brings peace to our lives. Peace that knows we are right with God, a part of His family, walking on the narrow way to eternal life in His kingdom! When we choose to live by God’s wisdom our life reflects Him in the circumstance we face and we glorify Him. As we put His Word in our hearts and carefully guard it we will make decisions more carefully and according to the Word placed there.

I continue to pray that I make better choices that reflect Jesus Christ. It is an ongoing process that will continue until I walk into the Kingdom of God. I pray you will grow in God’s wisdom and desire to reflect Him in every circumstance you face until the day you walk into His kingdom.
