Philippians
4:6, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with
thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
I have
always enjoyed this verse because I apply it to the times anxiety wants to
control my life. But Paul tells us to go to prayer in everything and to do so
with thanksgiving. Believers are not to be anxious about anything! That does
not mean we have no concern about something or careless about our actions,
thoughts and words. It means we are not to be fearful or paranoid about what is
happening around us. That is because we are able to go to God at any time with
anything; He is the One with all power, all authority, and in control of every
situation. I am in awe of knowing I can go to Him at any time and He hears me.
Part of the
time with God must be spent in giving thanks to Him for what He has already done
for us. It seems right to thank Him for what He is doing or going to do in our
life and those we pray for. Perhaps as you take time today or in the days ahead
to be with Him, you could tell Him how thankful you are that He chose you to be
part of His family. Thank Him for the many
blessings you have because of what He has done for you. Thanking God for what
He does every day helps us to turn away from earthly wants and desires and
focus on Him and the future with Him; we do so even when the circumstances
being faced are difficult.
We give
thanks to God for His goodness and His grace! He has given us so much and we must
not take Him nor what He has given to us lightly. But beyond the many earthly
blessings we must be thankful for the promises of His eternal blessings. Thank
Him for eternal life with Him in His kingdom. Take the time to remember what He
has done for you and give thanks. Doing so should be a daily part of the
time we spend with Him.
Have a wonderful
time of thanksgiving as you gather with family in the days ahead. The next page
of the blog will be on Monday!
