learning DAILY

2Timothy 3:1, But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.

Yesterday, Charlotte and I helped the Food Bank hand out food items to those who have lost work due to this coronavirus.  It was amazing how many people drove through the lines; most seemed genuinely thankful for what they received.  Be thankful at all times, watch how God meets needs and how He gives you opportunity to serve Him.

It also gave me time to think about what I believe I am to write in the Daily Learning blog.  I have really tried to write on other Scripture but struggled with that.  So, here we are with what Paul had to say to Timothy about times to come.  For right now I am not going to deal with the phrase “last days” to avoid confusion.

The question to be answered pertains to what are perilous times.  Perilous times come because of sin.  Those who are corrupt in the thinking and actions cause perilous times.  Rick Renner describes perilous times this way, “hurtful, harmful, dangerous, unpredictable, uncontrollable, high-risk periods of time.”  It seems these times have come.  He goes on to say, “Were His prophetic warnings intended to scare or to fill us with fear? No!  The Holy Spirit, as He always has done, wanted to prepare God’s people so they could be spiritually alert and ready to minister to people who suffer harm as a result of the events that will grip the world at the end of the age.

Reflect for a moment on how evil in the world has accelerated and intensified.  There has been a worldwide collapse of the moral structure of the family and society in general; “people have become lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God” (see verse 4).  In the next few days, we will examine the issue that Paul was warning Timothy (and us) about with specifics concerning perilous times.  You can decide for yourself if this is a time we are facing today.  It is good to be spiritually prepared, to not be fearful!
