learning DAILY

Revelation 21:4,  “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.   There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

John heard a voice out of heaven say that the tabernacle of God is with men and He shall dwell with men and He shall be there God.  God’s dwelling place, His presence will now be on earth; His intent is to live with His creation.  The promise He made to Abraham to bless all nations will now be fulfilled.  It amazes me that a Holy God would live with mankind.  Yet, this new earth will now become His dwelling place and He will remain forever with His people.  He can only do this because every kind of sin and evil has been removed forever.

Have you considered the effects of sin? Look around you.  Selfishness, sorrow, pain, unhappiness, stealing, lying, cheating, murder, disease, and death are all around us.  Consider the things you do not want anyone else to know about you.  Do I need to continue?  But now, all this is gone because the evil things of the first heaven and earth have completely passed away (Isaiah 65:17).  The elimination of death, sorrow, crying, and pain is a complete reversal of the curses found in Genesis 3, when they entered human history.  The tears God wipes away are not tears of shame or guilt but tears caused by pain, death, persecution, and other hardships His people suffered on earth.  The Matthew Henry commentary states this way, “God himself, as their tender Father, with his own kind hand, shall wipe away the tears of his children; and they would not have been without those tears when God shall come and wipe them away.”

Dr. David Jeremiah has written this about heaven, “Sometimes heaven is referred to as a country, and we think about its vastness.  Sometimes heaven is referred to as a city, and we think about its inhabitants.  Sometimes heaven is called a kingdom, and we think of its orderliness.  Sometimes heaven is called a Paradise, and we imagine its beauty.  But when we call heaven the Father’s house, we think of intimacy and permanency.  The most important feature of this New Jerusalem is that God and the Lamb will be there, forever!”
