Revelation 22:1, And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.
Do you remember the river that Ezekiel saw flowing from the throne of God? If not, go back to March 11-14 and read what I wrote then. Or, you might read Ezekiel 47:1-12. Once again it is seen in John’s vision. In both visions the river is important because it comes from the very throne of God; it is quite different from the rivers we are accustomed to on the earth we now know. This river is described as crystal clean and pure, giving and maintaining life. Perhaps it could be symbolic of the life-giving abundance of God’s blessings and provisions that flow directly from Him.
Keep reading in Revelation 22 and notice that there is an important tree found there – the tree of life. The tree of life was found in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:9; 3:22); this tree might be greater because it refers to eternal life for all who populate this New Jerusalem.
Read how John describes the tree. It is fed by God and brings forth twelve fruits and does so every month. That means the tree is never empty. The fruit is always fresh and healthy; even our new bodies will be dependent upon the Lord for life, strength and health. The leaves of the tree signify the absence of anything that might bring harm physically or spiritually (Life in the Spirit Study Bible).
Revelation 22:3 gives a wonderful promise – there shall be no more curse because the throne of God and the Lamb shall be in this place and we shall serve Him. The devil cannot be here. He can no longer tempt people to follow him as he did Adam and Eve and so many after them. He is locked up for eternity with all who chose to follow him, never again cause chaos and disbelief.
Throughout man’s history, the Bible has said no one could see God’s face and live. But, in heaven, Revelation 22:4 tells us that we shall see God’s face and His name shall be on our foreheads. This is the ultimate goal of redemption – God living among His faithful people with all evil gone. The saints will be able to see and live with the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who was obedient to the plan of salvation through death on a cross. Upon their heads will be God’s own seal of ownership as being subject to only Him. As the saints reign with Him forever, they serve Him with honor and joy unspeakable.
I pray that you are excited about life in heaven. What little we are given in the Bible about heaven is enough to encourage me to live my life as best I can as a child of God. Jesus Christ cleanses us of sin when we sin. 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Matthew 5:8, Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” If you need to take a moment to confess sins, I encourage you to do so. I want to walk with the joy and comfort that God gives and to do so for ever and ever.
