Psalm 150
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!
Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
Praise Him with the sound of
the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
Praise Him with the timbrel
and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!
Let everything that has
breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD!
The book of Psalms closes with
magnificence and majesty. George Wood
states, “All ends well with God. Life
has a successful resolution. God kept
his word and worked for the good in your life.
There were days when you did not see where He was taking you or what
good He was doing for you – but now eternity makes it so plain. Nothing but joy awaits. No more recitation of sorrow or need; just
pure, unrelenting satisfaction and fullness.
The final psalm shows not even a ripple of discontent.” (A Psalm in Your Heart p. 604-605)
True praise of God happens
when we see His full goodness and greatness, when we meditate on all that He
has done in creation and in the redemption of our personal lives. Praise then becomes a powerful response of our
heart. Praise becomes an expression of
joy, gratitude and a desire to commune with God. In addition to songs and instruments, praise
can also be expressed with a life of love, joy, and peace due to our faith in
Jesus Christ. I believe that praise to
the Lord is also expressed with a spiritual hunger for His kingdom and His
righteousness.
Who is to praise the
Lord? Verse 6 answers the question – everything that has breath. When is He to be praised? At all times, in every situation and
condition we face each day! Do we praise
Him when we feel like it? No! You begin to praise Him in spite of how you
feel; see what happens after you begin to give Him praise. Praise Him if or when the covid-19 virus
comes! Praise Him when depression comes!
Praise Him while looking for a job!
Praise Him when everything seems like it could get no better! Praise Him
for what He has already done in your life or in your family’s life! Praise Him for today and for tomorrow!
Charles Spurgeon comments “what
a day it will be when all things in all places gather in unity to give glory to
the One and Only True God.” Believers
need not wait for heaven to give glory and praises to Him. Go ahead and give Him thanksgiving and praise
right now. He is worthy and deserves
your worship!
