LEARNING DAILY

Isaiah 55:8, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

I have given up!  I have tried so many times to help the Lord in so many different situations.  I have even tried to add to thoughts I believed He wanted to do in my life.  By the way, they were all really good things that would have helped many people.  But He has not taken, not needed my advice or help at any time.  So, I have given up trying to help Him.

After forty-fours years I have finally decided Isaiah 55:8 is true.  God’s thoughts and ways are not those of a human being.  The lesson to be learned in the life of a Christian is to walk with Him by faith.  2 Corinthians 5:7 tells us, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”  It is not always as easy as it seems because our humanity wants to know or to see before we act.  The problem is usually a matter of trust.  Too many times I have allowed my own thoughts to get in the way of what God wants; my five senses have not always been kind.  I have concluded that God’s thoughts and ways are always better.  We are all called to trust His ways more than our own.

The question is how does trust and faith become dominate over believing what we see?  That answer might be answered in Romans 12:1-2 where we are told to “be transformed by the renewing of our mind, that you may approve what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”. “That transformation results when Christ and His Word renews our minds so that our vision, values, and plans are governed by God’s revelation and eternal truth, rather than the world’s temporal and deceptive pattern” (from the Life in the Spirit Study Bible notes).

We must be in God’s Word daily because of Satan’s attack and slander on God’s will being undesirable, restrictive, narrow-minded, imperfect, and not good.  To combat this our greatest desire should be to live in conformity to what pleases God.  That can only be achieved by remaining in His word and walking by faith.  Walking by faith always means trusting that God’s ways are higher, and His ways are always at work in our lives – even when we cannot see how.

As I look back over the years, I can see how God brought good in my life when I could not see how.  When I thought my life was going one way, He sent me in a different direction.  He always brought good from those instances I thought to be so bad, from those circumstances I could not control.  Through it all, He was there, probably chuckling when I thought the world was coming to an end because I trusted my ways.  But when I trusted Him the things He did – both of us must have been smiling.  It is good to trust in God’s thought and His ways!
