LEARNING DAILY

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit; Born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate; Was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into Hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven; And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; The Holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints; The forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.   The Apostle’s Creed

Romans 6:23, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 6:36, He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

The Bible is about eternity and where we choose to be after we die.  There are two choices for each of us.  One is eternal life in God’s kingdom through a belief in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross.  The other choice is eternal damnation in hell because of the choice to ignore, mock, and live according to this world’s ways.  The choice is between the gate that is wide and the walk on the broad way that leads to destruction or to enter the narrow gate and walk on the narrow way that leads to eternal life in God’s kingdom.  The important question each of us will be faced with and must answer is: What did you do with Jesus Christ?  What do you believe about Him?  He is a liar? A lunatic? Or is He Lord?  What does your lifestyle say?

The blogs about the Apostle’s Creed have been about important doctrines that lead to this choice.  I began the examination of the Apostle’s Creed by making the statement that your life is lived by what you believe.  Perhaps you did a self-examination when reading the thoughts about the doctrines presented in this Creed; that was the intention.  What does your life say about your beliefs?  More importantly what will the Lord say when you stand before Him to give an account of your life, when your works are burned to see what reward(s) you will receive.  Is your name be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life?

Be encouraged!   The Greek word for eternal is aionios which means unending.  That is a long time!  I found it interesting to know this also “focuses on the quality or characteristics which is eternal” (from an article in Compelling Truth).  The article went on the say, “eternal life is not simply life that never ends, but a fullness of life that is unending.”  Life in heaven will be amazing; it is enough that God’s presence is there.  His glory, His brightness will be the only light we need.  “Nothing will be able to enter His kingdom that defiles or causes an abomination or a lie” (Revelation 21:23,27).  No more tears.  No more hunger or wars, or fighting of any kind.  No more deception. No more pain.  The former things have passed away and all things made new!  The Lord Jesus will “give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts!  He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My Son” (Read Revelation 21)!

Joshua 24:14-15 are great verses to conclude with today.  They are great verses to challenge each of us! “Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt.  Serve the Lord!  And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourself whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.  But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

What have you chosen?
