LEARNING DAILY
Romans 1:28, And even as they did not like to retain God in their
knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do the things which were not
fitting;
I know I wrote in the last page of the blog that we were going to be
blessed in Revelation beginning today. But
I need to share a moment I had while reading yesterday. I might have mentioned going through a
container in the garage a while back that had a number of Max Lucado books in
it. I have been reading these books in
between other books and read something that for some reason triggered a memory. The book I am reading now is In the Grip
of Grace.
In the last page of the blog, I mentioned some questions I was asked
about teaching The Revelation. The
memory stirred was a question I asked a Junior Bible class I was teaching at a
different Christian School. It must have
been in the second semester of school and out of some frustration, I asked the
class, “Why does studying the Bible not excite you like it excites me?” never ask a question if you are not prepared
for the answer! The answer came back, “because
we have heard it all before.” Excuse
me? Again, I was not ready for this
answer and I am not sure what my response was. By this time in my life, I had spent
twenty-two years studying God’s Word and had not grown tired or bored with
it. By the way, it has been almost
forty-five years now since I began to studying His Word in earnest! Nope – still not tired of it and it certainly
does not bore me!
Read what Max Lucado wrote that
brought me back to this moment in time. “The
trail has lost its secrets. Ever wonder
why people sleep in on Sunday mornings (whether in bed or in the
sanctuary)? Now you know. They’ve seen it all. Why get excited? They know it all. There is nothing sacred. The holy becomes humdrum. Rather than dashing into life like kids to
the park, we doze through our days like commuters on a train.”
Several paragraphs later, Lucado writes, “What was true in Paul’s day
(Read Romans 1) is still true in ours, and we would do well to heed his
warning. Otherwise, what is to keep us
from destroying ourselves? If there is
no standard in this life, no purpose to this life, and nothing is sacred about
this life, what is to keep us from doing whatever we want?” He wrote this book in 1996 and I believe it
is pretty prophetic as I consider the world we live in in 2021.
It certainly seems like God is giving us over to the strong delusion God
will send to believe the lie (2 Thessalonians 2:11). Those who are of the world system, under the
influence of Satan, will tell you can live anyway you want. They will tell you there is more than one way
to get to heaven and there is no narrow way to God’s kingdom and eternal
life. And, sadly, people will buy into
it because they have “heard it all before and it bores them”! The result is their ears will itch and they
will find some pastor, some church that will tell them their life style,
whatever that might be, is acceptable to God when it is not. They will believe the lie.
That leads us into the book of The Revelation. For those who might like to read the last
chapter of the novel to see what happens, The Revelation is for you. No, it will not be an in-depth, verse by
verse study. However, I hope it becomes
that for you.
