LEARNING DAILY
Revelation 6:9-10, When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the
altar the souls of those who had been slain for the testimony which they
held. And they cried with a loud voice,
saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood
on those who dwell on earth?”
Revelation 6:12, I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold,
there was a great earthquake; and the sun became as black as sackcloth of hair,
and the moon became like blood.
The opening of the fifth seal moves what John sees back to
heaven. John now sees the result of the
previous seals being opened; he sees those “slain for the testimony which
they held”. These have been martyred
for their faith in Jesus Christ. If the
Church has been raptured and is in heaven, how do people get saved? That question is answered in the next
chapter. Those slain are asking the
difficult question, “Lord, when are you going to judge those who have killed
us?”
They are told to be patient; there will be more who die for their
faith. “This tribulation period will be
a terrible time of persecution for those who accept the gospel and remain
faithful to God and His Word.” (From the Life in the Spirit Study Bible).
It Is better to accept Jesus Christ as Savior and live with Him as
Lord now than to wait until the Tribulation period and lose your head over
it. I’m not one for thinking people will
just decide to accept and follow Christ in the Tribulation. But if that does happen, the chances of
losing their head over it is extremely high.
Why wait?!
The seals conclude with a great earthquake that blackens the sun in
the day and turns the moon to a reddish color at night. To add to the terror this causes, a meteor
shower will follow the earthquake. Those
on earth will be so terrified that they will seek shelter in caves and shelters
they have built under ground. “Even
unbelievers know they are experiencing the wrath of God. Explaining the first five seal judgments
might be explained as natural happenings, but with the sixth seal, that is no
longer possible.” (Dr. Arnold G. Frutchenbaum).
Revelation 6 ends with this, “For the great day of His wrath has
come, and who is able to stand?”
