LEARNING DAILY
1 Corinthians 10:31, So, whether you eat or drink, or
whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Today’s page of the blog comes with the focus from yesterday’s,
allowing the light of Jesus in you to shine so God is glorified. Paul was
addressing those living in the city of Corinth. Paul wrote to address how the Corinthian
Christians were to address the idolatry that was all around them. “Whether
you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
As a Believer, don’t you find joy in giving God glory, by
doing things through your actions, the things you say, and even your attitudes.
When facing decisions, honoring God is a guideline to making right choices. Will
your actions or what you say when tempted glorify Him? I believe that knowing whether
what we do or say will honor Him will help Believers know that even the daily
activities of eating and drinking can be done in ways that reflect God’s
goodness and grace.
Jesus said that walking the narrow way would be difficult
because the enemy, the world, and the flesh will try to tempt us to desire
those things contrary to the Word of God. Consider for a moment the number of
temptations that come your way during the day. Temptations come in different ways
for each Believer, and in many ways these temptations are the same. What do you
do when faced with temptation? Do you rush forward, make quick decisions, or pause
and consider what is happening. I understand that it is not always possible to
pause for long; just be ready, knowing that your actions or words are
important. You know what tempts you. When faced with temptation ask: “Can I
thank God for what these words or actions will result in? Can I do or say this
in Jesus’ name? Can I do or say this for God’s glory?” (O S Hawkins).
Why is this important to a Believer. 1 Corinthians 10:24
tells us, “Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.” How
many times have you heard or read that others are watching you, especially if
you have professed to be a follower of Jesus. They want to see if your walk
matches your talk. They might even want to catch you in a situation that does
not honor Him. Doing all to honor God will not cause problems for other, even
other Believers.
Your everyday actions are an expression of your faith and
devotion to God. Have you considered that? This verse challenges every Believer
to consider the intention or motive for what he/she is doing; even the small
things can be meaningful and significant when done with a heart that seeks to
live for and honor God.
May this verse and thought help each believer to remember
that every task, every interaction, every decision is an opportunity to glorify
your Father in heaven. Be inspired to
live a life that is devoted to God, where every action, every word spoken can
honor Him.
