LEARNING DAILY

Matthew 5:16, In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

What does letting your light shine look like? Light is meant to be seen by those in darkness. As a Believer the light of Jesus in you is meant to be seen by the works, the things you do and by what you say – those things Jesus meant for you to do. But understand it is not your light but the light within you produced by God. It is the way you act and speak, and what you do in a Christ-like way that others see and glorify God.

There are many ways to allow your light to shine before others. You can show compassion and kindness to all people. That includes generosity with our money, time, and resources; everything belongs to God, so it is a matter of sharing with others what He has blessed us with. Forgiving others as we have been forgiven is another way to allow the light of Jesus in us. Seeking reconciliation with those who have wronged us as well as those we have wronged promote peace and unity. Perhaps the greatest way to show the light of Jesus is to share what He has done for us by saving and changing our lives. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you as you share what Jesus has done for you. The purpose of allowing your light to shine is not to draw attention to yourself but to live in a way that will glorify your Father in heaven.

The example you set by living the life of a Believer makes a positive impact on the world – an example for others to follow. Imagine the impact your example can have on those around you. Yes, people are watching how you behave not only when life is good but, in those times, when life is difficult. Actions speak volumes about the goodness and the love that Jesus brings when He changes your life. His light in Believers, light the way to Jesus for those in darkness. His light in you has the power to lift up others and cause them to seek what it is in you that causes you to be different. The times we live in might be what causes those in darkness to truly seek out those who act and speak differently. Be willing to speak the truth, to share whose light it is in you, and how He has helped you walk the narrow way.

A lighthouse provides a beacon to lead ships safely to a harbor. It casts a warning during storms that give direction to safety. Who around you need that light? Show them the power of God’s goodness and love through your words and deeds you bring to this world. Ready to inspire others and transform lives with your light? Jesus Christ is the only spiritual light in the world, and His light goes throughout this world through those who believe and follow Him.

Do all you do in the name of Jesus and do all you do for His glory.
